AEM Assets is Adobe Experience Manager's digital asset management module — a central repository for storing, tagging, and distributing images, video, documents, and other rich media with built-in rights management and metadata.
How It Works
Assets are uploaded into a governed repository where metadata (tags, usage rights, expiration dates) attaches automatically or via AI-assisted auto-tagging. Dynamic media delivery generates resized, reformatted, or cropped versions on demand instead of requiring manually stored variants for every channel. Rights and usage tracking flags assets that aren't licensed for a given market or channel, and that check applies automatically when the same asset is pulled into an AEM Sites page — so a regional team can't accidentally publish an asset outside its licensed use.
| Factor | AEM Assets | Generic Cloud Storage |
|---|---|---|
| Metadata & tagging | Structured, AI-assisted | Manual, unstructured |
| Rights/usage tracking | Built-in enforcement | None |
| Dynamic format delivery | Automatic resize/reformat | Manual export per format |
| Integration with CMS publishing | Native (AEM Sites) | Manual upload |
